This is the strategy for keeping the lab up to date on what is happening
with surface mount technology.

Continue to participate in the the corporate surface mount task force
(Russ Sparks). The following areas should be to be summarized, documented
and keep up to date. This information would be helpful to the whole
corporation and so the responsibility should be distributed among the
members of the surface mount task force.

.LI
Reliability - Summarize all the reliability testing being done within HP.
List goals and expectations of how surface mount will affect reliability.
.LI
Components - Research what components can and cannot be surface mounted.
What parts are coming in the future? How will parts be shipped (reals,
tubes, etc)?
.LI
Pc Boards - What design rules are currently being used? What will be
available in the future? When will HP shops be able to build surface mount
PC boards?
.LI
Testing - What special test requirements does surface mount have? Is
incoming testing feasible? How will boards be repaired?
.LI
Manufacturing - List the divisions that are planning to use surface mount.
what kind of components are they surface mounting? What equipment do they
have? What is there schedule? Discuss problems that they have encountered.
.LI
Futures - List what will be happening in the future with surface mount.
When will we be able to build and test two sided boards?
