This redbook is intended for management or technical personnel who have
responsibility for configuration or inventory management of their local area
network (LAN) environments. It discusses some of the challenges and problems
being faced in many organizations today in the configuration management
discipline and in the control of inventory and assets.
This book first gives you an introduction to the configuration management
discipline and some of the areas that need to be considered. It then
describes an application called IBM Configuration Management Tool for OS/2
(ConfigTool), which can be used to get started in the configuration
management of your LAN environments. This book is a subset of the redbook
Getting Started With Configuration Management Using ConfigTool, SG24-4667
(available May 1996), which contains more in-depth detail on ConfigTool, and
the ConfigTool application itself.
This book is useful for anyone involved in trying to provide effective
configuration management of their LAN environments.
