Redbook Abstract
Lotus Solutions for The Enterprise, Volume 1 Lotus Notes: An Enterprise Application Platform, SG24-4837-00
  Abstract
This redbook explains the integration of Lotus Notes applications with existing enterprise applications. Enterprise applications use a combination of transaction and database management systems. Over the years, they have proven their reliability in the processing of business transactions by supporting high-transaction volumes and secure, large, structured databases. Most businesses are completely dependent on the reliable performance of their existing enterprise applications. Lotus Notes, as a groupware application, enables companies to distribute and share information in new departmental and cross-functional business processes. It also fosters teamwork, which requires easy access to information and a controlled flow and sharing of information. Lotus Notes simplifies the communication and collaboration of people working together. To link the best of these two very different and complementary computing environments, we need to build bridges. Several approaches are possible and this book describes each of them. Depending on whether you are a developer (Which development method should I use ?) or a system administrator (How can I implement the backup strategy ?) the impact of the bridge will differ. This redbook will help IS managers and technical professionals evaluate the impact of implementing such a bridge between Lotus Notes and transaction and database management systems. The document has been written with the assumption that readers have some knowledge of either Lotus Notes or enterprise applications. Depending of their background, they will find a chapter describing the key features of the other environment.
