  Abstract
This IBM Redbook will help you install, tailor, and configure Version 3.5 of VisualAge for Java and WebSphere Studio, which are the prime development tools for Web applications running on Application Servers such as WebSphere Application Server.

The redbook will guide you through all the new functions in Version 3.5 of VisualAge for Java and WebSphere Studio.

The major new functions in VisualAge for Java are an improved integrated development environment (IDE) with full source code edit, a new WebSphere Test Environment Control Center, a Servlet SmartGuide, management and versioning of resource files, enhanced enterprise access through Data Access Beans, Enterprise JavaBeans, SQL stored procedures, and the Enterprise Access Builder, an XML Generator, and a rewritten External Version Control interface.

The major new functions in WebSphere Studio are simplified publishing to a Web application, generation of Compact HTML, VoiceXML, and WML, improved SQL and Database Wizards, an integrated Page Designer, a VoiceXML editor, an Animated GIF Designer, a WebArt Designer, a Page Detailer for Web site performance measurements, and an improved interface to VisualAge for Java.

The sample code used to illustrate the new functions is available for download at the Redbooks Internet site. These examples can be loaded into Version 3.5 of VisualAge for Java and WebSphere Studio.
